I have been witness of 2 cases which shows that people are taking measures to reduce this problem. The first one is washing car without water and the second one is making use of 'used' water of factories to wash vehicles.

We should not rely too much on authorities to find solutions.

If we use desalination of sea water as a solution to water problems, many of us will prolly have to pay higher fees for water supply. Maybe people will have to pay for water they use in public toilets as well. I tell you why. Desalination is no easy task. It requires a large of amount of energy for the process which means that more money will have to be invested for the supplying of this required energy. With the loads of project that the government has put on place so far, it will very difficult to invest more money in desalination of sea water as a mean for domestic use. Another alternative is recycling the waste water for domestic use. Again this is another method which will require lots of fund. The situation is really alarming in Mauritius. Experts will have to find a solution the quickest possible.

Coming to the point of experts in the field of Water Management, I think that Mauritius badly needs these professionals. For the time being the main objective for Mauritius is to make it on the same lime line as Singapore. To achieve it, the government is concentrating more on enhancing GBOT, the aviation sector, thus neglecting the God-gifted natural resources water.

What do you mean by the same line as Singapore, Nush? What are the methods they put into practice there?

Singapore is an investor-dominated country dealing with global professionals. For the majority of its population, saving and withdrawing money are not the only transactions which can be done with money. They have knowledge of how to 'play' with money to safeguard their future.

The recent launching of the Global Board of Trade in Mauritius marks that we have acquired the opportunity to invest in Gold, Foreign Currencies amongst others. Unfortunately, due to lack of knowledge, very few Mauritians form part of its investing activities. One of the methods will be to teach Mauritians of how to 'play' with money.

And how can this help to solve the water problem in Mauritius? You mean if Mauritius invests in this, we will earn funds and therefore solve the water problem?

No Shanu. It worthless to invest too much in GBOT right now because Mauritians have a very poor knowledge concerning the world of risk. For the time being it would be better to alleviate the problem of scarcity of water.
