Confectionery

Post by Varun on Sun 5 Jun 2011 - 19:36

I know sweets (including chocolates and all) are not too good for health if consumed too much but are they addictive? I'm finding myself very much addicted to these stuffs these days. Embarassed

Are sweets addictive? What's the limit and what are the precautionary measures?

Certainly addictive in case of Diabetes: polyphagia
These sweets contain lots of carbohydrates which are much more than required. It is better to cosume just after some heavy meal like breakfast, lunch or dinner, but not in between meals. Wink
Consuming food stimulate secretion of insulin from pancreas. So each time we consume food, the cells of pancreas are working to produce and secrete insulin. But at certain point of time, due to over stimulation, the cells are tired and become non-functional hence no insulin. If Insulin is lacking in body, carbohydrate cannot be used by body hence blood glucose rises leading to diabetes. Hence its not good to stimulate the cells of pancreas often. Wink
I hope everybody understood how diabetes takes place.

Varun consuming these sweets is fine but the amount of carbohydrate present will require much much amount of insulin hence more the cells of pancreas has to toil more for lager amount of insulin.

But for sure these sweets are very very addictive. If you consume one piece of them, you want more and more and we get carried away by the wish of our tongue.

I can witness that Varun has practically stopped consuming sweets, yet he is tempted from time to time just like me.

Is there any way to stop thinking about sweets, guys? For example, by drinking much more water than we are used to or by simply doing exercises? Rolling Eyes

Confectionaries normally taste sweet... I advice you to eat juicy fruits like apple or pineapple to compensate your envy for sweets... Also, try eating home made food for lunch instead of being 'kebabs', 'roti' ou 'dholl puri'...

It would be better if we eat confectioneries like those which have been consumed by our grandparents. For instance, confectioneries made from tapioca, sweet potato, 'violette'...Then we would be strong like them and might land up having a longer life expectancy Very Happy

Correct me if I'm wrong but in my view, this seems to be irrelevant here. What a Face

Nah, I see some improvements in Varun.

Before, whenever he saw any cake or sweet he would eat it immediately. Now, he eats such things after lunch.

Two weeks ago I bought one of his favourite biscuits and to my surprise, he hasn't opened the packet yet. In the past, as soon as I brought the biscuit, he would open and eat it even if he hadn't had lunch. Smile
