Are the satellite speakers of your desired home theater monopoles, bipoles, dipoles or tripoles?

From what I understood from the net, mine are dipoles, that is bidirectional.

  • Monopole speakers fire sound in 1 direction. They are often called as "Direct Radiators" because they fire sound directly at the listener.
  • Bipole speakers fire sound in 2 directions, often forwards and backwards. You get a back-echo some short time later but sometimes they fire 90 degrees to each other.
  • Dipole speakers also fire sound in 2 directions but usually along a wall and not directly at the listener. They became popular when ProLogic video tapes emerged. The guys at Dolby wanted rear speakers with indistinct sounds like wind/rain/noise but did not want you to be able to tell where the speakers were. So, they wanted a speaker that only bounced sounds off of a wall. These speakers have fallen out of popularity with DVDs and 5.1 systems where you want your attention pulled to the speaker location. These are sometimes called as "indirect speakers".
  • Tripole speakers are a bit of a gimmick and non-standard type. They often have 2 drivers firing along a wall like a dipole speaker and a third driver that fires out towards the listener like a monopole. Sometimes, there is a switch to change the speaker from indirect to direct.

I would recommend option 2 for the surround dipole satellites for a better immersion in the sound field and also, I would advise you to place the second subwoofer on the right side, opposite to the first subwoofer found on the left side.

For the second subwoofer, I place it in the other corner next to the other speaker. Question
