Country Immigration

Post by Varun on Thu 19 Mar 2009 - 23:07

It's becoming a growing phenomenon for people to leave their countries of origin for some reason or another but we also have diehard patriots who will never leave their birth place whatever happens. So, what are your views and what do you fancy?

Re: Country Immigration

Post by Sneha on Fri 20 Mar 2009 - 10:52

To be frank, I once used to dream leaving Mauritius for Australia where I would migrate forever. I had been in Melbourne for a little time in my early teenage years and that part of Australia fascinated me; it appeared really cool, modern and outstanding.

Even my friends encouraged me in doing so. Another reason was that I wanted to stay away from my parents because of their old-fashioned way of thinking which disturbed my life from time to time. Leaving this country became my goal.

Then came a day when Varun came into my life and made me see things clearer. I started questioning myself; why should I opt for a foreign country where I would be starting everything from zero? What guarantee do I have that everything's gonna be alright there? Mauritius is progressing day after day with various facilities and numerous services offered by the state. It is no more known as a little island lost in the Indian Ocean, but as a very fast-developing country. After all, this is my native country and I should be serving my motherland for giving me all I needed till now.

Thereafter, I decided not to leave my homeland... No, never! Smile

How about you, baby? Wink

I will do it, that's my dream!

I bliv the poll is a bit too arbitrary. some ppl migrate lookin for jobs in their specific fields, or better lifestyles.

Others do so thnkin they ll be better off. 'the grass is greener on the other side'

Either way itz not a 'dream', but rather a choice made based on wat the individual wants to achieve.

Visham, I don't think you can deny the fact that there are some persons dreaming of leaving their motherland for other countries because either they are ashamed of their native country or they want to do it for the mere sake of pleasure/fondness/craze.

On the other hand, may be option would have been a better option than dream or choice.

My point exactly. The current wording of the poll doesn't open it up to everyone, which is why i haven't been able to vote Smile

Should I add another option in the poll? Let's say something like:

That's my choice due to circumstances.

The other day, I met a cousin of mine who's brother is studying in Wales. I asked him when is his brother coming back and he replied: "Li pa pou rétourné li, li pou res laba mem aster."

I asked him why and he said: "Péi la dan bez, ki li pou vinn fer isi?"

I then asked him if it's not people like his brother who are rather making this country go through difficulties. After pondering for a few seconds, he replied: "Mo kwar twéna rézon, les mo répran sé ki monn fek dir."

Ours is a country which reflects hardwork, pain and struggle of our ancestors. They are the sole ones who have work from sunrise to sunset to turn Mauritius into a developing country.

Most youngsters of today fail to realise that it's our duty to turn it into a developed country. They just opt for country immigration and increase the GDP of the G8 countries.

If the present figure of immigrants is maintained, the dream of turning Mauritius into a fast growing economic hub will never turn into reality.

So learn to serve your nation rather than becoming the servant of others.

I would have loved to see some (Mauritian) immigrants respond to these two posts and the picture below:
