English FA Cup - 2007/08

Post by Varun on Sat 5 Jan 2008 - 13:49

The FA Cup is the world's oldest football knockout competition and it is also one of the most passionate ones.

My most adored Manchester United are the record holders of the FA Cup being 11 times winners and 7 times runners-up. Today begins the 3rd round of the 127th edition of this competition and eyes will be focussed mainly on the big four (Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea) of the Premier League.

Let's see how things will shape up as from now in this competition.

Gareth Barry has been trying hard in every style to stop Cristiano Ronaldo but the latter was able to broke the deadlock 10 minutes before the final whistle.

Wayne Rooney's introduction changed the game and led Alex Ferguson to joke afterwards: "I have been trying to find a new Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a substitute although I don't think Wayne would appreciate that."

Things were a bit funny in London where QPR underlined their financial supremacy to Chelsea by granting them an own goal.

Indeed Manchester United got to play against one of the toughest team in the third round of the FA Cup while other great pretenders like Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea got matches against teams level below the Coca Cola Championship.

Deesha, where are you? Do you still think Manchester United have lady luck on their sides?

What about a team who plays (with home advantage and with stars collectively rated above 200 Million Pounds Sterling including your much beloved Frank Lampard) against another one of a lower division and manages to profit only by an own goal?

The gunners' arses are high as they march on courtesy of a victory over Burnley but the breaking news come from lowly Luton who were able to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw thanks to an own goal from John Arne Riise.

Technically, Drogba is good. However, he has the habit of dramatizing each of his reactions which is something very unprofessional and does not suit his pedigree.

Re: English FA Cup - 2007/08

Post by Varun on Mon 25 Feb 2008 - 19:54

ESPN Soccernet wrote:Manchester United winger Nani has revealed that a stern word from manager Sir Alex Ferguson was enough to persuade him not to repeat his on-field juggling antics.

The 21-year old provoked the fury of several Arsenal players, as well as Ferguson, when he indulged in some 'kick-ups' towards the end of last weekend's 4-0 FA Cup thrashing of the Gunners at Old Trafford.

Nani insists he was not being disrespectful and was merely trying to entertain but has also vowed not to repeat the trick.
I'm a bit perplexed at this. Let Arsenal aside as they have always had stupid reactions during a football match when they simply can keep pace with their rivals but I can't understand Sir Alex Ferguson's judgement to Nani's 'kick-ups'.

I mean if a footballer can't show his techniques and expertise on a football pitch in front of a capacity crwod where will he show these things?
