English Premier League - 2008/09

Post by Varun on Sun 31 Aug 2008 - 23:26

With the new season under way, no teams have been able to manage a 100% record so far. Chelsea and Liverpool are topping the table, both having 7 points for 3 matches played, and Arsenal are in third place with 6 points having already lost to Fulham while Manchester United are lying in the middle of the table with 4 points for 2 matches played.

Give a vote for your potential champions and debate your insights.

The race will be again between manutd but this time the race will be tougher with revised chelsea side. New manager new tactics. As for liverpool and asrsenal they will fight for 3rd an 4the place. The reason is simple arsenal have lost important players and don't have enough backup to resist all the season. Liverpool currently are playing really bad only luck is on their side at the moment. Last minute goals are coming out of the blue. For long will this luck hold on. Not long it only occur for a short period of time. When gerrard and torres not well the team suffers. TWO horse race for me!!!

One match does not make you win the title. Experienced team will break down arsenal. Remove fabregas from the team the midfield suffers.

This may be right but still, the Gunners have been a member of the 'big four' since long and you can't write them off so easily. Arsene Wenger is another maestro in managing a team after all.

That said, I firmly believe and hope that Manchester United will go on and clinch a third successive title equalling Liverpool's record this season.

You are right the big four is always entertaining. They give us the pleasure to watch the EPL. Heh u asked me my opinion i said mine. At the start to 3/4 of the season the race will be amongst those four but for the final sprint i'll maintain two horse race!!!

What happened on saturday Amit? Can you please tell me about the match of Liverpool against MANU because I don't have Canal + at my place so couldn't enjoy the match.

Well if I would have posted before the match I would say depite that Benitez doesn't know exactly where to place the players, the match would end on a draw.

Chelsea? Hmmm

Voting? Wow.
All teams donot repeat their best performance in each match unlike Manchester United. Being a Liverpool fan I guess MANU will take the trophy again.

One match doesn't decide the season. Manchester United lost at Anfield Road and that was a shame. However, statistics will indicate you that this is the usual run in early season for the champions. We always had slow starts but never finished below Liverpool since the Premier League replaced the 'old' First Division. Razz

The only place I could watch it was at www.global3sms.com. Anyway, I'm happy that we didn't lose the match and we still have a game in hand but on the other hand, Arsenal are aiming very high with their free scoring style of play.

Is Xabi Alonso such a horrible player? Rafael Benitez wanted to offload him in the unsuccessful Gareth Barry deal and now, even the fans are mourning after he helped his team stop Chelsea's unbeaten run. Is this the meaning of you will never walk alone? Razz

I think you should have watched the Arsenal - Manchester United match, watched the highlights of the match or at least, read the newspapers because it was a fact that Manchester United played the better football and had twice as much opportunities to score but unfortunately they couldn't take up their chances.

Kavi, Berbatov is a striker unlike Rooney and Tevez who play as forwards and generally, all strikers' gameplay have the tendency to look like an easy and lazy style. However, they aren't and their finishes are most of the time lethal.

I watched the Manchester United vs. Sunderland match yesterday. Even with 75% of ball possession, Manchester United could only break the deadlock at the death and that too by Nemanja Vidic. What a Face

Anyway, can anybody tell me when will the downfall of Liverpool begin this season? Razz

Do you think Manchester United is well placed to have the trophy again? I say Yes, when you see the premier league table and the two matches which Man U hasn't yet played, i think they can go for the title again. Don't forget, we have to play the other 3 big at Old Trafford Very Happy things are in our hand!!

Chelsea just failed to take the top spot after a goalless draw at Goodison Park and having 38 points for 18 matches played, they could be soon joined by Manchester United who have 32 points for only 16 matches played so far.

Liverpool is still leading the table but with only a one-point advantage over Chelsea. Let's see if the Scousers are strong enough to resist the competition in the seconf half of the season. Wink

www.ManUtd.com wrote:Nevermind Liverpool's biggest win... United are now the bookies' tip for the 2008/09 title, after Chelsea dropped two points on Christmas Sunday.

Betfred (www.manutd.com/bet) prices the Red Devils at 6/5 favourites with Chelsea now at 15/8 following their draw in the West London derby at Craven Cottage. Frank Lampard seemed to have secured a win when his brace overturned Fulham's early lead through Clint Dempsey, but the latter equalised in the last minute to dent Chelsea's challenge.

Liverpool are still only third favourites at 11/4, despite scoring five goals away at Newcastle. The Magpies are 5/1 to be relegated after losing 5-1 to Rafa Benitez's men.

Stoke are favourites to go down after losing 2-1 at West Ham and fighting among themselves - Ricardo Fuller was sent off for shoving his own captain Andy Griffin...
