UEFA Champions League - 2007/08

Post by Varun on Thu 10 Apr 2008 - 0:49

Manchester United broke another record today by becoming the only club who won a streak of 11 consecutive home matches in the Champions League by beatinng AS Roma 1-0. On the other hand, Barcelona also secured their place in the last four as have Chelsea and Liverpool.

AS Roma's Daniele de Rossi skies his penalty at Old Trafford.

So guys, are we going to have an all English cup final?

Well..i think yes.. We are going to have an all english cup final.. As far as the first leg semi final is conserned, we will surely have an english club in the final, either Liverpool or Chelsea. But as far as the second leg is concerned i think Manchester United is well placed to be in the final regarding the cleansheet they have in the Champions League games.. I have watched all their games at the beginning of this competition and i can say that they made extremely well.. So my prediction is Liverpool v/s Manchester United in the cup final

In one hand there will be two Argentina player namely Messi and Tevez.

On the other hand there will be a terrilble confrontation between Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for the 'Ballon d'Or".

Barcelona had 72% of ball possession during the match and they hardly tested Edwin van Der Sar. lol!

Let's wait for the return leg next Tuesday at Old Trafford.

Time to celebrate, guys... We are once again champions of Europe! cheers

People can say whatever they want but we are worthy winners of this most prestigious European prize and I should admit that this final against Chelsea was a thrilling moment for me.

Going into the match, I was confident that we would be crowned European champions but may be I was a bit over-confident at first because I simply wouldn't have been able to digest it if we were to become loosers and moreover, our domestic title would have also been overshadowed.

The match in itself was very entertaining and was one of the best finals we've got to watch since the European Cup has been rebranded as the Champions League. The first half had its peak with a goal a-side but the second half got me on my knees when Drogba's and Lampard's balls crashed on the crossbar.

An on-fire Cristiano Ronaldo leapt highest to score his 42nd goal of the season.

Ryan Giggs replaces fellow veteran Paul Scholes to win his 759th cap for United, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton's mark of 758.

Didier Drogba is sent off for a petulant slap on Nemanja Vidic at the end of extra-time. Is it the last we see of him in a Chelsea shirt?

However, moments later I got goose bumps when I recalled those balls which crashed very similarly on the crossbar in the 1999 final against Bayern Munich. There was something in the air which told me not to worry because we are eventually going to be champions of Europe soon.

Extra time was over and the match wasn't still decided. We then had to settle for the penalty shoot-out which is always a harsh way to divide the teams. Cristiano Ronaldo, as impossible as it may seem, missed his penalty and it only needed a goal from John Terry to seal it for Roman Abramovich's side.

Again, like in 1999 tears came off my eyes but somehow, the Blues' captain missed it just like Anelka later did and we were in dreamland for the third time.

Manchester United are the Champions of Europe and the Champions of England too. Next on the list is global conquest...
