As you people may have already noticed, I'm a great fan of Mercedes-Benz but my sweet little darling Sneha wants a BMW. So, what to do?

Well, Mercedes-Benz is a German brand of luxury and high-performance automobiles just like BMW. However, Mercedes-Benz has a richer history and has introduced, both in the past and present, the majority of technological and safety features common in modern vehicles.

Certainly, BMW produces sportier vehicles but Mercedes-Benz remains the reference with the likes of the SSK, 300SL, 600 Pullman, C111, 190E, Maybach 62 and SLR 722.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on this Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG?

Vishaan, trying to afford a luxurious German car is almost impossible and you're talking about having two of them?

BMW doesn't even have a competitor for the Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG. BMW has the X5 which can only compete with the smaller Mercedes-Benz M-Class and once again the latter gets the first price with the M63 AMG. It boasts with a hand built supercharged 510 horsepower 6.3L-V8 engine which outclasses the 360 horsepower of the top of the line X5 4.8L-V8 engine.

Anyway, returning back to Vishaan's statement where he talked about having both, a coupé/roadster and a sedan, Mercedes-Benz has the answer and it is the CLS-Class.

The CLS-Class is an executive-size sedan and is marketed as the four-door coupé version of the E-Class model on which it is based and competes with the BMW 6-Series. Both top of the line engines are almost on par with the M6 having a 500 hp 5.0L-V10 power plant and the CLS63 AMG having a 514 hp 6.3L-V8 power plant but the latter edges out with its outrageous 630 nanometres of torque thanks to its larger displacement capacity compared to the 520 nanometres of the M6.

As you can see, the CLS-Class combines the dynamism of a coupé with the luxury and practicality of a saloon, which means that you can get your pulse racing and still have space for four adults and their luggage whereas the 6-Series remains a mere coupé with its two doors amd limited space.

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is inspired by the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR of 1955 which was actually based on the W196 F1 car, yet named after the road-going Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing.

Though often classified as a supercar and compared to cars like the Porsche Carrera GT, Lamborghini Murcielago and Ferrari Enzo, the presence of the automatic gear box and its driving characteristics lead some commentators to classify the SLR McLaren as a Super GT whose closer rivals are the Aston Martin Vanquish and Ferrari 599 GTB. One of the goals of the SLR was to combine both supercar and GT characteristics.

It is the fastest automatic transmission car in the world. SLR stands for "sport, leicht, Rennsport" (sport, light, racing). Mercedes-Benz has stated that they will build 3500 SLRs in a span of 7 years with an annual production of only 500 cars.

The SLR McLaren sports a 232-kilogram, hand-built, 5.4-litre, supercharged, all-aluminum, SOHC V8 engine. The cylinders are angled at 90 degrees with three valves per cylinder and lubricated via a dry sump system. The compression ratio is 8.8:1 and the bore and stroke is 97 milimetre and 92 milimetre, respectively. The Lysholm-type twin-screw supercharger produces 0.9 bar of boost, the turbine rotates at 23000 revolutions per minute and the air is cooled via two intercoolers. The engine generates a maximum power of 626 horsepower at 6500 revolutions per minute and a maximum torque of 780 newton-metre at 3250 revolutions per minute.

Last but not least and needless to say, BMW doesn't even have a competitor for this eye-catching beast from Mercedes-Benz.

Okay, let's forget about the above mentioned vehicles because they are not only unaffordable but they are also very limited and AMG never exceeds a production of 500 per annum for a particular model. Moreover, these cars are too thirsty and with the constant rise of the petrol price it seems almost impossible to buy one.

Let's come down to earth and think about the more affordable ones. What about the C200 Kompressor which sports a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine delivering 184 hp and 250 Nm?
